30 Mar Breaking on WCME: A New Boost For BIW
First on the Midcoast on WCME:
A notable economic boost for the Midcoast today. Senators Collins and King are jointly announcing a move by the Navy to provide 644 million dollars in funding for the design and construction of an Arleigh Burke class destroyer–known officially as the DDG-51–at Bath Iron Works. The destroyer was previously awarded to the shipyard as part of a multi-year procurement contract to build ten ships from 2013-2017.
In addition to savings for taxpayers, the senators say the multi-year contract has allowed BIW and other equipment manufacturers to plan future workloads more efficiently.
