A Fatality in Harpswell

Cumberland County Sheriffs Deputies continue to investigate a two-vehicle accident on Harpswell Islands Road in Harpswell that has claimed the life of  28-year-old Eric Allred of Brunswick. Deputies say Allred’s car was northbound when he apparently lost control and crossed into the southbound lane, where his car crashed into a vehicle driven by a woman from Vermont, in which family members were passengers. However no one in that family was seriously hurt. However Allred had to be extricated from his car and was pronounced dead enroute to Midcoast Hospital. Alcohol is not thought to have been a factor in the crash, but speed is.

In Topsham, police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection  with an armed robbery said to have been committed with his twin brother. Alexander Laurelez is the latest to be charged. His brother Matthew had been arrested earlier in the incident on November 22 in which they are believed to have used a gun to rob a man they had arranged to meet at  a town athletic field. Both brothers are now being held at the regional jail in Wiscasset.

The life of a noted portrait artist native to Brunswick has ended. 76-year-old Elena Louise Jahn had lived for many years on Monhegan Island and passed at Midcoast Hospital as a result of complications from scleroderma, a connective tissue disease. Her art ranged from the realistic to the abstract and was exhibited in various collections in the U-S, Canada, and in Europe.
