On today’s WCME Midcoast Morning Buzz, Bill Green, the popular longtime outdoors reporter for News Center Maine, who retired in 2019, and in the following year recorded a widely noted televised endorsement of Senator Susan Collins, doesn’t rule out a similar move on behalf of Collins next year, when she plans to seek a sixth term in the U-S Senate.
The 2020 endorsement from Green came at the start of the last campaign when polls showed a close race between Collins and Democratic challenger Sara Gideon of Freeport.
In the end, Collins won the race by a significant margin of 9 percent, and several veteran political observers credit a combination of the Green endorsement and a sustained attack on Gideon by Collins, who charged that Gideon, in her role as Speaker of the House, was too slow in responding to allegations of sexual misconduct by a member of the House.
