About This Project

The attorney general announces the filing of a civil rights complaint in Superior Court in Portland against 49-year-old William Deary and his 18-year-old son Hayden, both of Harpswell. The complaint alleges that in early January, the Dearys vandalized road signs and roadways in Harpswell, Brunswick, Bath, and Topsham with anti-Semitic and racist phrases and symbols.

Given the fact that misdemeanor criminal charges have been brought against the Dearys by police agencies, we began the interview with Aaron Frey by asking him about the reason for the civil rights complaint.
